For 11 years now I have attended to surgery of shoulder and elbow joints exclusively.
I have been inspired and led by my practice partner Prof. Dr. P. Habermeyer and have learned the entire range of aspects and methods in shoulder surgery from scratch. During the years of practical activities I have been able to deepen my professional knowledge. The possibility of performing many interventions arthroscopically has especially motivated me to work on improvements of surgical instruments and new techniques. This fact led to the publication of the “Atlas Schulterarthroskopie” (Atlas for Shoulder Arthroscopy) in 2008. Surgical techniques have to be subjected to a critical examination of their efficacy and their benefit for the patients, however. This is why scientific analysis is one of the central objectives of my work. Welfare of the patient is always in the centre of my doing so that I recommend surgery only in case of correct indications.

Current ranking of the FOCUS List of Physicians of 14/06/2010*: The Practice for Shoulder Surgery at the ATOS Clinic Heidelberg is the only medical practice in Germany where all physicians have been recommended by the FOCUS list. Selected specialists for shoulder surgery are Prof. Habermeyer, Prof. Loew, and Dr. Lichtenberg.
Apart from the Practice for Shoulder Surgery, four further specialists of the ATOS Clinic have been recommended by the FOCUS list – thus the ATOS Clinics count among the most highly recommended German clinics.
