The Centre for Orthopaedic and Sports Trauma Surgery offers surgical treatment of the hip, knee, and ankle joint as well as of tendon and muscle injuries. All sports orthopaedic and sports traumatological issues such as the assessment of fitness for doing sports especially after injuries to the musculoskeletal system or after joint replacement are managed by Prof. Schmitt. In general, all sports-related orthopaedic problems, also with children and youths, are treated at the centre. The better part of the patients naturally comes from the area of competitive and leisure sports.
Range of services
Scope of surgical treatment:
- Hip joint: hip joint arthroscopy (no joint replacement)
- Knee joint: all interventions including endoprosthetics (i.e. meniscus and cartilage surgery (all common procedures), cruciate ligament replacement (anterior and posterior), patella problems, varus and valgus deformities, i.e. correction osteotomies, partial replacement (medial and lateral unicompartmental prosthesis), and total replacement of the knee joint)
- Ankle joint: arthroscopic therapy of cartilage and ligament injuries, arthrosis treatment (without joint replacement), tendon and muscle injuries (quadriceps tendon, patellar tendon, Achilles tendon, muscle rupture)
Scope of conservative treatment:
- All sports orthopaedic and sports traumatological issues such as the assessment of fitness for doing sports in general, but also after injuries to the musculoskeletal system in particular
- Sports-related orthopaedic problems of children and youths
- Sports-related orthopaedic problems and issues after joint replacement
- Advising of both high-performance athletes and competitive and leisure athletes
